I started writing this blog in 2007 and continue today, hoping it will make its way to anyone who feels stuck while trying to make lifestyle changes to live at a healthy weight. Changing behaviors can be tricky if we don’t evaluate our perspective and adjust our expectations and mindset. I believe the foundation of lasting behavior change starts with four key elements:
1.) Self-compassion 2.) A growth mindset 3.) Joy in the journey 4.) Gratitude
Self-compassion is recognizing our humanity. It’s realizing and accepting that no human can be perfect 100% of the time. Therefore, when we make choices that aren’t in line with our goals, it’s an opportunity to learn, modify and move forward. This is called a Growth Mindset, and it leads to lasting success and facilitates joy in the journey! The fourth foundation of lasting behavior change is the practice of gratitude for today and using the good feeling energy of appreciation to propel us forward into the actions we want to take.
Losing The Weight of the Weight
The weight of the negative emotions that can accompany being overweight are as heavy if not even heavier than any amount of weight we could ever carry on our bodies. It’s not about the food. It’s not about will power. It’s not about want power. It’s not about...

A Source From Which Something May Be Drawn As Needed
When I moved to the west coast last fall, saying good bye to all of my Illinois WW members, co-workers, friends and family was one of the hardest things I've ever done. Just as Darin and I started to feel settled and I was developing new WW friendships in Fresno, the...

Feel Good About Yourself Now, Not “When”
When I saw this it spoke to me. Goals are great but it’s also important, actually more important, to be grateful for where we are in our journey this moment. No matter where that might be. We are each perfect in our own way All is well❤️ Terra...

Egg Cooking Day At Our House!
I don’t know about you, but I burnt myself out on hard boiled eggs a long time ago. I used to love them but now I’m kind of “MEH” at the thought of eating one as a snack unless it’s in a salad or on a sandwich. This became a real bummer because hard boiled eggs are...
