Goal for Today: Love and Accept Yourself, As-Is

We are so good at loving others…our kids, our nieces, nephews, our parents, our spouses, our friends, our co-workers. Most of us are even pretty darn nice to strangers we pass on the street or in the aisle at the grocery store! We read passages like the above, and we know Love is the way, but what about feeling that Love for ourselves? Do we treat everyone around us with the kindness, Love and caring that helps them to grow and feel good about themselves but then fall short when it comes to ourselves? Remember, as we adopt healthy changes in our life it’s also important to accept who we are right now and Love ourselves. I am not talking about a vain love that’s shallow, egotistical and base on material things. I am talking about a loving acceptance of ourselves right now rather than always wishing or wanting to be someone or something different. Thinner thighs, a flatter tummy, smaller jeans, a lower weight….the lists of material “I wish I was….” or ” I wish I had….” can be relentless, so let’s stop it today and replace it with ” I am grateful for”…… I am grateful for these thighs because they take me everywhere I need to go, all day long, even when exhausted. I am grateful for this tummy, stretch marks and all, because it carried my two beautiful children all those years ago. I am grateful I have a drawer full of jeans to wear. And my weight? Well… it must be just the right weight for me today. How do I know? As Byron Katie teaches “Because that’s what it IS right now! When you argue with reality you will lose only 100% of the time!!!”

We will accomplish far more and enjoy our lives on a much deeper level if we can learn to Love and accept ourselves today, just as we are. “When we feel better, we do better”. We are free, today, to make all the healthy choices that we want and free to move joyfully into this crisp, November day from a place of Love and gratitude.
