“Gratitude is an art of painting an adversity into a lovely picture.” ~Kak Sri
So many good things come about when we start becoming more mindful of our eating and our health. Of course weight loss is one of them, but think of all the other positive ways that it can impact our lives. Better role models for our kids, family and friends, more energy, feeling better, more productive, sleeping better, the empowering feeling of being in control of our actions and choices, just to name a few. If we constantly focus on the scale as our only sign of progress or success, we can easily become discouraged because the process feels difficult or forced and out of our control. But wait! That is really missing the BIG PICTURE. Getting control of our eating, our health and our weight is exciting and rewarding..not stressful!! It’s not something we HAVE to do, rather, it’s something we WANT and GET to do. Don’t put un-do pressure on yourself or try to force the process because will-power is not a long-term solution. We are making life style changes and they take the form of small steps that you can maintain for the rest of your life. Choosing the strawberries over the Hershey’s kisses will help your weight loss eventually, but it will make you feel better within a few minutes because it won’t cause uncontrollable cravings and it will fill you up. That’s a GOOD thing…not a bad thing that you have to “endure” because you are “on a diet”. Pushing the plate away tonight at dinner, as soon as you start to feel full, is not deprivation…it’s listening to your body and it’s an act of kindness!! No matter how much your “evil twin” tells you don’t want to go on that walk or don’t have time…she’s lying…because we always feel better and more clear-headed and productive after taking some time to move our bodies around. We like instant gratification and we can get that from many of these healthy behaviors. What a blessing to be able to do something to make ourselves feel better RIGHT NOW!
There are many people out there who don’t struggle with weight but are NOT healthy and do not feel their best every day. The weight loss and maintenance journey that we are on brings MANY blessings with it and the sooner we recognize this fact and start being grateful for where we are right now, the sooner we will see, feel and experiences those blessings.
Have a HAPPY MONDAY! The kids are back in school, its beautiful fall weather and it’s our time to SHINE in whatever you have on your schedule to do today.
